A term used to express the idea that communication tends to follow patterns. Spatial locality of reference means that a computer is more likely to communicate with a nearby computer than a distant computer, and temporal locality of reference means that a computer is more likely to communicate with the same computer repeatedly than to communicate with a new computer each time.
