Exam Objectives and Sub-Objectives:

Following are the objectives of this exam

 

1. Basic AIX Manipulations

  • Save the output from an AIX command in a file
  • Use the contents of a file as input to an AIX command
  • Use a pipeline to pass output from one AIX command to another command
  • Start, stop, and page using AIX command output
  • Use mail to send to local users
  • Use mail to delete or forward mail
  • Set your password

 

2. AIX on-line Documentation

  • Start and stop Documentation Library Service and Search Service
  • Use and understand the types of information available in the different sections of the Documentation Library Service (e.g., Description, Purpose, Syntax, Flags, Related Information)
  • Use and understand Man Pages

 

3. AIX File System

  • Distinguish between a regular AIX file and an AIX directory
  • Choose appropriate names for AIX files
  • Identify and manipulate AIX files using path names
  • Find the current directory on the AIX system
  • Use commands to list the files in an AIX directory
  • Navigate within the AIX file system
  • Show current space available in a file system (df command)
  • Show current disk usage (du command)
  • Use links (e.g., symbolic and hard links)

 

4. AIX System Screen Editor (vi)

  • Enter and exit vi and save changes
  • Position the cursor in vi
  • Create text in vi
  • Delete text in vi
  • Search for text in vi
  • Change text in vi
  • Copy or move text in vi
  • Set vi options

 

5. Setting Up a Login Session

  • Display and change the terminal setup using the TERM variable
  • Control the initial login actions of the Korn shell
  • Set prompt to display current directory
  • Use Shell history (e.g., C shell, Korn shell, etc.)
  • Save a CDE environment

 

6. Managing Files

  • Copy, move, remove, and rename AIX files
  • Create, remove, and rename directories
  • Search for patterns in a given file or in the current directory
  • Use the commands to locate files (e.g., where, find)
  • Use the chmod command to restrict read, write, or execute permissions to a user or a group of users

 

7. Process Creation and Control

  • Enter more than one AIX command on a single line
  • Run an AIX command in the background
  • Use quotes to take away the meaning of special characters in the command line
  • Create shell scripts
  • Run shell scripts
  • Stop/Show Status of Processes (i.e., ps command)
  • Display and move jobs between foreground and background

 

 8. Print

  • Submit print jobs to a specific print queue
  • Display information about the current status of a print queue
  • Cancel print jobs in AIX
  • Cancel print jobs in System 5
  • Set up a default printer for the user
  • List status of print job

 

 9. XWindows

  • Select a window for Input
  • Move, resize, close, minimize, maximize windows
  • Use menus
  • Use the mouse
  • Use drag and drop
  • Use cut and paste
  • Use the DISPLAY variable and the xhost command
  • Select a virtual desktop
  • Change the focal point between windows and a desktop

 

10. Advanced User Functions

  • Use File transfer commands
  • Display network status
  • Use telnet or ssh commands
