Exam Objectives and Sub-Objectives:

Following are the objectives of this exam

1. Installation

• Develop Installation Strategy
• Determine whether migration or new install is necessary (e.g., upgrade, overwrite, maintenance level)
• Determine whether network or local install is required
• Perform Local Install
• Install base operating system (Boot off CD)
• Install additional licensed products
• Install necessary updates to operating system and licensed products
• Verify Installation
• Reboot system to verify proper system startup and verify that subsystems have started properly
• Verify installation of desired licensed products
• Verify that applicable updates have been installed (lppchk, lslpp, instfix)
• Verify that applications and or databases are running properly
• Customize the System Environment
• Set up system environment variables (date/time, etc.)
• Set up networking
• Set up NIM if necessary
• Set up devices, printers
• Prepare files system and logical volumes
• Set up additional resources
• Install applications/databases (prepare data with mirroring, additional vg)

2. Installation Problem Determination

• Diagnose/Identify Boot Problem
• Determine best path based on symptoms of failure
• Record boot problem symptoms (e.g., LED hang, system crash, hang with text on screen)
• Consult problem determination documentation
• Follow Procedure for System Recovery Boot system in maintenance mode
• Perform file system recovery
• Perform boot image/bootlist recovery with bosboot and bootlist
• Fix hangs due to inittab problems
• Verify Problem is Resolved
• Reboot system to verify proper operation

 3. Backup

• Determine Strategy for Backup (Type, Media, Time)
• Determine rootvg (OS) (e.g., mksysb, etc.)
• Determine Data/Apps (Non-) Strategy (e.g., AIX tools, etc.)
• Perform Backup (Tools)
• Determine backup utility required (Command Line Tools)

• Boot off of mksysbbackup to verify it is bootable
• Troubleshoot using AIX backup methods
• List table of contents from mksysb

4. Recovery

• Determine Strategy for Recovery
• Determine if mksysb restore is necessary
• Perform Recovery
• Recover LVM
• Restore data
• Verify Recovery Success Verify proper functionality of system applications after recovery
• Software Maintenance
• Perform De-installation if necessary
• Perform Operating System updates
